Back in July, a certificate for a Devizes Rotary Paella Party was auctioned at the Julia’s House Summer Ball. It was won by Craig Collingwood, and so a couple of Saturday’s ago the Devizes Rotary Cooking Team were delighted to be able to cook some of their delicious paella for Craig, his wife Vicki, and around 20 other guests.
A note from Craig together with some ‘photos from the evening are shown below. All the profits (£348.78) from the event have been donated to Julia’s House.
Just wanted to say a MASSIVE thanks to you and the team for last Saturday evening. We all had a great night and really enjoyed the food. Please pass on our thanks to everyone.
Having had to postpone the Julia’s House Teddy Bears Picnic that was originally to be held on Saturday 17th August due to high winds posing a potential risk to visitors and helpers, everyone involved was hoping for better weather when it was re-scheduled for the following Saturday.
Although there were a number of dark clouds around when we set up our stall, we were still hopefully there would be some takers for our egg and bacon sandwiches:
However, the great British summer weather struck again with a vengeance as we found ourselves in the middle of a terrific deluge:
The storyteller was all ready to tell his stories, and Councillor Jane Burton, Mayor of Devizes, arrived to help judge the Teddy Bear competition with Iain Wallace. The only thing that was missing was some children and their families!
Oh well, at least a few of the organisers dodged the showers to grab a sandwich from us, and who knows, maybe the weather will be kinder to us next year?!
