Paella Party for Imagine Cruising

On Saturday 11th August we held a Paella Party for some employees of Imagine Cruising plus their family and friends.

The party was one of the two which were won in an auction held at The Springfields Academy where all proceeds were donated to the school.

All was going well in preparation for the event when we met up at Colin’s lockup in Bromham to load up the cars. However things became somewhat fraught when we realised that the address we’d been given was not recognised by our satnav devices as the house was a new one at the Tadpole Garden Village near Swindon.

This was further complicated by the fact that we didn’t have a telephone number for the contact person!

Nevertheless, we did manage to get there in the end (although not before some references to “it’s a bit like being part of Dad’s Army!” had been made) and, under the expert guidance of head chef Colin, we were again able to put on a great meal which was very much appreciated by all involved.

Thanks to the Imagine Cruising folks for their hospitality, and also to my granddaughter Molly for keeping us older blokes in order!

Springfields Academy Christmas Fair 2017

Last Thursday evening Springfields Academy opened their doors to parents and the public for their annual Christmas fair. Devizes Rotary took over the refectory to cook hot dogs and burgers plus both alcoholic and non-alcoholic Mold Wine, and the Conservatory to run the Rotathalon Games.

Although it was distinctly chilly outside, the atmosphere inside was lovely and warm and a good time was had by all. All profits from the Rotary food sales and donations were added to the profits made by the other stalls, and the total of over £800 will go to supporting pupils with educational  trips and resources to enrich their learning.

Inaugural Rotathalon Games at Springfields Academy

Springfields logoFor some weeks now Geoff, Clive and I have been putting together the equipment needed to stage the inaugural Rotathalon Games at the Christmas Fayre which was held on 10th December at the Springfields Academy in Calne.

Alan T and Tom helped us to set things up on the night, and all the pupils, parents and friends that came along seemed to enjoy having a go at the five events, namely:

  • Bung the Beanbag
  • Control the Car
  • Loop the Loop
  • Swipe the Skittles
  • Splat the Rat

All proceeds raised were donated to the Academy, and now we’re hoping to be able to do the same kind of thing at other fayres and fetes next year.

Below are a few ‘photos from the evening.

Pictures from the Springfield Academy visit

A selection of pictures from the Springfield Academy visit has been put in a gallery on the Club’s Facebook page:

and on the Club’s Flickr site:

I’ve not been able to include any of the pictures of the kids because I am still awaiting a ‘consent’ email from the Vice Principal but I will add them as soon as I can after receiving it.

There aren’t many from the main presentation upstairs:  I asked to see the rooms in which the presentations would take place and they showed me the reception area (which I could just about do without lighting).

However, when things got underway, they took us upstairs to a poorly lit room which no one had showed me.

It was too big for the flash and needed lighting (which was in the car, because I didn’t think I’d need it).  I took some shots at 5,000 ISO and they are useable but need work and I’m a bit snowed under, so I’ve just uploaded a representative one!!
