Health & Well Being Day
Much of the following has been taken from an article by Jo Moore which appeared in the online Gazette and Herald on 17th June.
62 organisations offering everything from fitness fun to advice on how to keep your home more secure were out in force in Devizes on Saturday 14th June. The Devizes Community Area Health and Well Being Day, organised by Devizes Rotary with support from the Devizes Area Board, brought together a wide range of activities. Many of them were aimed at older people but there was also plenty on offer for younger people who were drawn to The Green despite severe showers throughout the morning.
Devizes U3A for example had a stand to advertise its many and varied groups that meet in members’ homes, village halls and community centres so people can socialise and do everything from French conversation and painting to playing table tennis and walking.
Also among those taking part was Devizes Men’s Shed which is a group that brings retired people together to make objects and offer friendship and support. Albert Wooldridge from Mens’ Shed said: “A great day at the Devizes Health and Wellbeing Day held on the small green. Devizes Men’s shed would like to say a big thank you to Cliff Evans for making it possible.”
Also taking part was town councillor Damion Godwin from running club Devizes FIT and Townson training, started by Greg Townson, which offers boot camp fitness.
Before the event opened refreshments were made available to the exhibitors and demonstrators by volunteers from WCIL and St James’ Church, then Devizes Rotary took over providing a great mixture of hot food and drinks. All the profits raised have been donated to 3 loical charities, namely the Devizes Monday Club, Market Lavington Tuesday Club and Bromham & Rowde Tuesday Club.
