Rotary Young Chef – Devizes Area Heat #2

Five more budding young chefs took part in the second heat of the Devizes Area Rotary Young Chef Competition 2016-17 yesterday evening. Again the standard was quite remarkable and big congratulations go to all those who took part, particularly the winner Elizabeth Woodward whose homemade apple crumble and custard comes highly recommended!

I can also announce that the two highest scoring chefs from both heats were Bella Paxton and Jocasta Wellard, which means that the lineup for the Devizes Area Final (which will take place at The Farm School in the evening of Monday 7th November) is:

From left to right:

Zara

  • Starter:Smoked mackerel pate with homemade toasted bread
  • Main: Bacon & Leek risotto with a Parmesan swirl
  • Dessert: Chocolate fondant with a drizzle of cream

Jocasta

  • Starter: Baked Pomelo mushroom with cheesy Gruyere, crunchy toasted bread crumbs and fresh herbs served with spicy green salad
  • Main: Grown ups cod fish finger with Parmesan crumbs served with hit roasted tomatoes, steamed long stemmed broccoli and homemade soda bread rolls
  • Dessert: Bread & butter udding with brioche and apricot jam and homemade vanilla custard

Elizabeth

  • Starter: Prawn cocktail served in a homemade sauce
  • Main: Homemade burgers with rolls and coleslaw made with homemade mayonnaise and oven cooked wedges
  • Dessert: Homemade apple crumble with a homemade custard on the side

Zoe

  • Starter: Spicy salmon fishcakes
  • Main: Special Friday night chicken
  • Dessert: Apple and blackberry crumble

Thomas

  • Starter: Asparagus fried in butter with almonds toasted in butter
  • Main: Grilled chicken in a home made marinade with roasted vegetables
  • Dessert: Plain cheese cake with caramel sauce
