Cooking in aid of Dorothy House
Having had bad weather for the main bank holiday weekend of the Devizes International Street Festival and Carnival for the past two years, surely it would be kind to us on Sunday 28th August when we had a stall on The Green selling chilli in aid of Dorothy House?
Once again things started reasonably well. We’d erected our gazebo and set out a table for David from Dorothy House to sell his raffle tickets, and were hopeful that we’d also be able to sell some of our chilli, knowing that all profits would go to helping Dorothy House with the great work that they do.
At first the rain was only light so our neighbours – Fullstop Acrobatic Theatre – were able to put on a great show:
However it soon began to come down pretty heavily, and when Mayor of Devizes Jane Burton came into our gazebo to shelter, we got her to do a bit of chilli stirring for us!
Unfortunately there weren’t too many takers for our chilli given the weather conditions, but when the rain did finally manage to ease off a little, another neighbour – this time part of the Dizzy O’Dare team – delighted the crowd when he disappeared into a giant balloon!
I reckon this just goes to show that even when the weather’s not great it seems that there’s never a dull moment at the Devizes International Street Festival!
