What a SuperSuccess SuperChoir 2015 was!  Below is an extract from a recent letter from Geoff which I think captures the magic of the day beautifully.

SuperChoir 2015

“We finished up with 11 schools and up to 400 children at the event. They all arrived by numerous coaches at 10:30 am on July 9th 2015 at Dauntsey’s school hall, and were addressed by Simon May, who then left Carole Berry to place them on the stage and start rehearsing together for the first time.

Amazingly the children were not fazed at all, and the rehearsals went on all day with intervals for lunch and tea before the audience of 400 mums, dads and grandparents arrived.”

Exemplary behaviour

“There was no sign of nerves from the children once the concert started.  Now all in their smart “Superchoir” tee shirts it was an amazing sight, and the children sung their little hearts out, putting in all the actions and movements that had been rehearsed with consummate ease.  Considering their ages it was a extremely professional performance.

Their behaviour throughout the very long day was exemplary, and a credit to all their teachers and their helpers.  I have been to a number of concerts during my life but never been in an audience that rose to their feet immediately the choir finished the last number, clapping and cheering for more until they got the encore they cheered for. Even our President Alan Truscott got a “thank you Rotarians” applause and a cheer when he made his final speech.”

Support

“This was a very different undertaking by Devizes Rotary Club but very much within their remit of helping the community. We couldn’t have done it without the support of many of the Devizes Business Community, who were extremely generous with their support which helped towards the cost of expenses such as the coaches, the T shirts and afternoon tea. Our thanks must also go to Carole and Simon for all the hard work that they put in this year to make “Superchoir” the wonderful success it was.  Also thanks to the teachers for their patience with their children and bringing them to the standard they achieved, and all the Rotarians and their wives and families for all the work behind the scenes to make this such an incredible success, and enjoyed by all concerned.”

The future?

“We already have a further 6 schools clambering to join the “Superchoir” next year. Will it be The Albert Hall and Gareth Malone sitting in the front row with a ‘green eye’ ?”
